Animal Rescues and Shelters in Arizona

Robbins Pet Care does not recommend or endorse any of the shelters, rescues or private parties listed within these pages, or affiliated/linked sites. Robbins Pet Care simply provides information to private animal owners, shelters and rescues. We encourage all to seek references when making decisions regarding pet adoption, pet placement, care and training. Statewide

  • Alaskan Malamute Rescue of Arizona - They find loving homes for Alaskan Malamutes who have been abandoned at shelters, picked up wandering the streets or turned in to us by good samaritans. They also work with owners who need help with their own dog, be it training or advice, or assisting them in placing their dog in a new home. All dogs are spayed or neutered prior to placement.
  • Arizona Adopt A Greyhound - One of the nation's largest Greyhound Adoption agencies. They place between 400-500 of these gentle creatures into wonderful homes each year. Loads of great information and resources are on this site, as well as entertaining photos of these adorable dogs.
  • Arizona Animal Rescue - A network of experienced rescue people who were previously doing rescue independently and realize the benefits of joiningtogether and combining resources. You will find lots of sweet faces on the homepage waiting for you to take them home. Most dogs spend at least a short time in foster care so they can evaluate their behaviors in a home setting.
  • Arizona Beagle Rescue - Arizona Beagle Rescue (AZBR) is a statewide 501(c)3 non-profit, all-volunteer animal welfare organization dedicated to saving homeless beagles through rescue efforts, adoption and education on the breed.
  • Arizona Border Collie Rescue - Their purpose and main function is to promote humane treatment through rescue, rehabilitation, education and the re-homing of neglected, abandoned and unwanted border collies.
  • Arizona Boxer Rescue (aka Boxer Luv Rescue) - Started in 1998 and saved 25 Boxers their first year, in 2004 they found homes for approximately 240 Boxers. Boxer Luv Rescue is a dedicated group of about 20-30 volunteers. On their site you will find wonderful stories about the companions who are waiting for a loving, permanent home.
  • Arizona Golden Retriever Connection - An all volunteer, non-profit, 501(c)3 organization dedicated to finding safe, loving and permanent homes for unwanted Golden Retrievers. They are committed to the rescue, foster and placement of any needy Golden Retriever in the Phoenix metro area.
  • Arizona Greyhound Rescue - An all volunteer, non-profit, 501(c)3 corporation committed to the belief that every Greyhound deserves a loving, permanent and responsible home. They offer a 90 minute video, "Life with Greyhounds" that will tell you very nearly everything you want and need to know about living with these amazing dogs.
  • Arizona Pug Adoption and Rescue Network - A 501(c)3 non-profit, all volunteer organization dedicated to rescuing Pugs. In addition to rescue, they strive to educate the public about the Pug breed, including its personality, special needs and care. They rescued 110 Pugs in 2004. Most have been adopted, but there are still Pugs needing homes. No out-of-state adoptions.
  • Arizona's Piggie Poo Rescue, Inc. - Piggie-Poo is an Arizona Non-Profit Corporation consisting of a network of private foster homes throughout the State. We primarily support municipal shelters and private rescue groups at critical capacity.
  • California Chinese Shar-pei Rescue (AZ, CA, OR, WA, NV, HI, CO, NM) - A registered non-profit Chinese Shar-Pei dog and puppy rescue serving the Western U.S., offering Shar-Pei adoption services, Shar-Pei health information and resources, a Shar-Pei Message Board and Discussion Forum and Shar-Pei gift items for sale.
  • Central & Northern Arizona Boxer Rescue
  • Grand Canyon Basset Assistance League - A group of volunteer dedicated to providing community outreach along with assistance, rescue and placement for Basset Hounds. They strive to help the overflow of homeless hounds find forever homes. Education about Basset ownership and the benefits of spay and neuter programs are integral issues to their group.
  • English Springer Spaniel Rescue America, Inc. - Located in Arizona, ESRA is a nationwide rescue group and a 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. They provide foster care and adoption referral services to shelters and animal control facilities with impounded Springers. They also assist owners who are unable to keep their Springers by taking them into their foster care.
  • For the Luv of Dogs - Lots of adorable and adoptable dogs and puppies. They are a non-profit, all-volunteer corporation. They do not have a shelter, only foster homes. They are actively involved in rescuing dogs who are in many sad situations or turned in by their owners and helping unclaimed strays find loving, forever homes. They also rescue dogs that are on the kill list at pounds throughout Arizona.
  • Morning Starr Animal Sanctuary - We are a No-Kill shelter specializing in ferrets and farm animals. This includes horses, goats and rabbits as well as the ferrets. We are a non profit, all volunteer organization.
  • New Hope Cattle Dogs - They believe that there is a special place out there for all unwanted and abandoned Australian Cattle Dogs. All New Hope Cattle Dogs will be spayed or neutered, micro-chipped, dewormed, health checked, have a fecal exam and are up to date on all vaccinations that are age appropriate. They do an extensive evaluation to try and get the best "fit" between you and your new dog.
  • R.E.S.C.U.E. - RESCUE is the last voice for dogs and cats who, through no fault of their own, find themselves awaiting death at the county pounds. Since 1995 they have helped over 8,000 animals.
  • Sahuaro Dachshund Rescue - We rescue purebred and mixed Dachshunds. The rescues are all spayed/neutered, vaccinations updated, micro-chipped, and tested for any parasites then treated if any are present. They are fostered in a home for evaluation. We want to get to know each rescue and place it in the best suited home for it's needs and personality. Our #1 priority is the welfare of dogs. Adoptions in AZ only.
  • Samoyed Club of Central Arizona Rescue (aka AZ Sammy Rescue) - A small group of people dedicated to finding homes for unwanted or homeless Samoyeds in Arizona.
  • Southwest Airedale Terrier Rescue (SWAT) - (AZ, NM, NV, UT) - The Airedale Rescue volunteers in Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada and Utah cooperate together to rescue, rehabilitate and place purebred Airedales.

Apache Junction

  • Oasis de los gatos, Inc. - Feral cat sanctuary. A non-profit organization whose goal is maintaining a sanctuary for feral cats and educating humans about the feral cat. Its taming process includes rehabilitation to put the cat or cats into society for adoption. If a feral can not be tamed to Oasis satisfaction, he/she will remain in the sanctuary. Offers a book, "Taming the Feral Cat" available from their website.


Arlington

  • 4 Paws - Dedicated to finding safe, loving homes for pets. We are a NO-KILL organization. We care for the lame and sick too.

Cave Creek

  • Foothills Animal Rescue - A no-kill, non-profit, volunteer organization established in 1995. They provide shelter, care and adoption services for dogs and cats.


Claypool

  • Gila Humane Society - A 509(a)1 non-profit corporation comprised of a group of non-paid volunteers who give their time, effort and money to promote spay & neuter and responsible pet care and ownership. They rescue some adoptable stray pets from the Gila County Animal Control and from owner surrenders to place in loving homes. All pets are vet checked, spayed or neutered and have current shots.


Congress


East Valley

  • East Valley Bunny Rescue - A no-kill rabbit (bunny) rescue. We seek life-long homes for abandoned/abused bunnies through adoption while caring for the many yet to find their 'forever home'. Contact for adoption location (as of 2/16/08, only available through PetSmart at ower/Southern).


Flagstaff

  • Coconino Humane Asssociation - A humane and caring shelter that will give aid to unwanted, abandoned and mistreated animals in northern Arizona.
  • Northern Arizona Second Chance Center for Animals - Most of the dogs, cats and small mammals come from euthanasia lists of North Arizona animal shelters. They also accept some animals turned in by their owners. Offers low cost spay/neuter services in their state-of-the-art vet clinic; shelter/adoption program; humane education and workshops for pets and their guardians.
  • Rebecca's Sunnybrook Farm - A wonderful site well worth visiting. Also offers dog walking, doggie day care, dog boarding and pet transportation.


Gilbert

  • Arizona Basset Hound Rescue - Since 1998, over 1,000 dogs saved (last update: 12/2008). As a non-profit 501(c)3 animal welfare organization, AZBHR provides vet care, food, support and shelter to Basset Hounds, Bloodhounds and Basset Hound mixes needing assistance in Arizona.
  • Friends for Life Animal Sanctuary - A 501(c)3 organization. Offers adoptions, education and spay/neuter programs.
  • Love-A-Bull Rescue - We specialize in rescuing and rehoming English Bulldogs in Arizona.
  • New Hope Cattle Dog Rescue - An all volunteer, non-profit 501(c)3 corporation helping discarded, stray and unwanted Australian Cattle Dogs (ACDs) that need a second chance at finding a forever home and providing education and training to the public. We rescue most of the dogs off of the euthanasia lists from local pounds/shelters, strays and also take owner surrenders (there is an intake fee). ACDs are also known as Blue Heelers, Queensland Heelers and Red Heelers.


Lake Havasu City

  • Western Arizona Humane Society - Since 1978 the Western Arizona Humane S ociety has been dedicated to the rescue, care and placement of unwanted and homeless animals and the elimination of pet overpopulation. They provide: clean and friendly animal shelter and pet adoption program; low cost spay-neuter program; pet first aid classes; rabies clinics; ambulance service; education programs for children & adults; wildlife rehabilitation; nursing home visitation program; more.


Lakeside


Mesa

  • Aussielads Lethal White Aussie Rescue - Our Purpose is to rescue and re-home existing Lethal White Australian Shepherds. Our Mission is to ensure, through support and education, a positive environment and successful life-long union for those adopted. Our Vision is to prevent, and ultimately eliminate, Merle-to-Merle breeding of Australian Shepherds through continuous efforts to educate.   • Cat's Meow - Voice for the Cats - Cats and kittens, as well as a few dogs.
  • Kaycee's Friends Cat Rescue - A volunteer rescue with their main foster home in Mesa and serving the Phoenix area.
  • Mesa Town Center Strays - M.T.C.S. is a 501(c)3 organization and was originally founded to help stray cats around the Mesa Town Center. They have expanded their care to include the East Valley. They are a small facility, but they strive to give the best care to cats they rescue. Strict guidelines are followed to assure a healthy pet is made available for adoption. If they cannot provide care for an animal, they will their best to direct you to someone who can.
  • Valley Of The Sun Dog Rescue - A registered non-profit organization. All breeds accepted, specializing in American Pitbulls and American Staffordshire Terriers.


New River

  • 3D Rescue of Arizona - Rescues Great Danes, Doberman Pinschers and Dachshunds. All rescues are vet checked, spayed or neutered, vaccinated and microchipped prior to adotpion. Accepts owner surrenders and also a New Hope Partner with Maricopa County Animal Care and Control.


Page/Lake Powell

  • Page/Lake Powell Humane Association - An all volunteer, non-profit organization. They presently work through foster homes exclusively. More foster homes are desperately needed.


Peoria

  • Phoenix Area Rottweiler Rescue - A non-profit rescue group dedicated to finding loving, permanent homes for rottweilers that have been abused, neglected or abandoned.


Phoenix

  • Arizona Animal Welfare League - Arizona's oldest and largest no-kill shelter.
  • Animals Benefit Club of Arizona - Founded in 1979, Animals Benefit Club is a non-profit 510(c)3 organization and no-kill sanctuary.
  • Arizona Beagle Rescue - An all volunteer organization. We take great pride in each placement. All dogs that come through AZBR need to be spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, and heartworm tested before they can be placed in forever homes.(Please note that some medical conditions may take longer to clear than others). While they are in foster care we also assess their personalities so that we can better match each dog with the perfect forever family.
  • Arizona Humane Society - Arizona's largest non-profit animal welfare and protection agency. Annually their "Open Door" shelter takes in 30,000 unwanted, sick, abused and injured animals. Offers pets for adoption, pet behavior information, educationand therapeutic services, animal rescue service, second chance hospital and more.
  • Arizona Jack Russell Rescue, Inc. - They are not a shelter and have no regular business hours. Adoption fees include neutering/spaying, a health exam, all vaccines, heartworm test and a supply of "Heartguard" and a fecal test to ensure no parasite are present and an ID microchip.
  • Boxer Rescue Foundation - A 501(c)3 not-for-profit corporation created exclusively for charitable purposes, specifically to provide financial assistance for rescued dogs of the Boxer breed while in foster care. The BRF exists to be different from other sources of rescue funding in that routine, yet costly, rescue expenses such as medications, minor surgeries, and rescue supplies are eligible for funding.
  • Citizens for North Phoenix Strays - A network of people foster caring for pets in need of new homes.
  • Curiel Animal Rescue of Guadalajara - All pets are fostered and cared by Curiel Rescue, so they can be matched to the best adopter; most are leash trained; many are already hosue broken and kennel trained; adults are spayed/neutered; all have their shots. They offer a guarantee for their health (aka financial aid). They also offer a free first exam with a participating veterinarian.
  • Dalmatian Rescue of Arizona - A small group of rescuers and the oldest Dal rescue group in the Valley. They provide stray/shelter dogs with foster homes, medical care, food/water, exercise and socialization. Purebred Dals only. In need of foster homes. No out-of-state adoptions.
  • Desert Labrador Retriever Rescue - All volunteer, 501(c) 3 non-profit organization for Labrador Retrievers in Phoenix and most areas of Arizona. They also provide medical care and/or rehabilitation for these dogs.
  • Dial A Pet - One of Arizona's premier placement agencies for dogs and cats needing new homes, due to no fault of their own.
  • Four Paws Rescue - Takes dogs from Maricopa County Animal Care and Control to save them from euthanasia. They do take some owner surrenders depending on space availability.
  • H.A.L.O. - Helping Animals Live On - A no-kill, 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to ending pet overpopulation. HALO was founded in 1994 by two women, Michel and Heather, out of their home in Phoenix, AZ. They provide temporary shelter to abandoned cats and dogs until a permanent home can be found and by providing low-cost spay/neuter programs to the public.
  • Ironwood Pig Sanctuary - We are a pot bellied pig rescue and sanctuary and are dedicated to eliminating the suffering of pot bellied pigs by promoting spaying and neutering, assisting owners and other sanctuaries, and providing a permanent home in a safe nurturing environment for those that are abandoned, abused, neglected, or unwanted. Our sanctuary consists of 80 acres with 15 being developed exclusively for pot bellied pigs and the remaining 65 serving as a buffer or for future growth.
  • MASH (MCSO Animal Safe Hospice) - Sheriff Joe Arpaio's no-kill shelter, MASH, was created to house and care for animals that have been abused or neglected by their caretakers, and that have been rescued by the Animal Cruelty Investigative Unit. The purpose of the shelter is to provide for these tragic animals, who must necessarily await the outcome of their owners' cruelty cases in court.
  • Maricopa County Animal Care and Control - AC&C is a full service animal organization that offers the community many valuable programs and services such as: Shelter for lost and stray animals; Field services throughout the Valley; Adoption programs to place dogs and cats in loving homes; Education programs; Human-animal bond programs; Low-cost vaccinations for dogs and cats; Help for families who are having trouble caring for their pet.
  • National Anatolian Shepherd Rescue Network - A non-profit, nationwide organization dedicated to placing any and all Anatolian Shepherd Dogs and their mixes that are deemed "adoptable."
  • Phoenix Area Rottweiler Rescue - Rottweiler rescue. Also offers training classes using positive reinforcement methods only.
  • Racing Home Greyhound Adoption - A non-profit, 501(c)3 volunteer organization to find homes for retired racing greyhounds and other homeless greyhounds.
  • Rescue A Golden of Arizona - Since 1998 (through 2004), 1,307 Golden Retreivers rescued, 1,246 Golden Retrievers adopted.
  • Small Paws of Arizona - A small group of people trying to save just a few of the many puppies and small dogs that are euthanized each year in Maricopa and Pinal Counties.
  • Southwest German Shepherd Rescue - A non-profit, 501(c)3 volunteer-based organization committed to the rescue, rehab and re-homing of German Shepherd dogs. Visit them for information about the breed and other information. In partnership with White German Shepherd Rescue of Phoenix.
  • Valley of the Sun Giant Schnauzer Rescue - We are a 501(c)3, nonprofit, organization based in Phx, AZ. All dogs are spayed/neutered, receive a full health & temperament evaluation. The adoption process includes completion of an adoption application and a home visit. Giants are extremely intelligent and have a working attitude. They thrive on having a "job" to occupy their time and provide an outlet for their energy.
  • White German Shepherd Rescue - We are a small rescue dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming white German Shepherd Dogs into their forever homes.


Pinetop

  • Humane Society of the White Mountains - Incorporated in 1970 by a group of caring and dedicated individuals who were concerned for the plight of homeless animals in the area. Offers free ID tags; lost and found services; pet adoptions spay and neuter; rescue; information and referral service; and discount rabies clinics.


Queen Creek

  • National Anatolian Shepherd Rescue Network - A nationwide, 501(c)3 recognized non-profit, organization. NASRN is dedicated to placing unwanted, displaced and abandoned Anatolian Shepherd Dogs(ASDs) into safe, caring homes.


Scottsdale

  • AZ Cocker Rescue - A small, all volunteer group dedicated to improving the lives of dogs in the Southwest. All dogs are fostered with a volunteer foster family until a home is found. We take in dogs that are in shelters throughout the Southwest if we have room or if there is a special need. We are members of the Southern California Cocker Coalition. We are able to coordinate transportation to/from California as needed. We will adopt out of state if we find the perfect home for one of our angels - the adopter is responsible for transportation and must first come to AZ to meet the dog.
  • Cow Cats and Dog Logs - Offers free rescue and adoption listings for Arizona cats, dogs, and other family pets who are in need of new homes. We provide shelters with a place to refer people and pets in need of help. We give people a way to place and find pets without using up valuable shelter resources.

Tempe

  • Arizona Golden Retriever Connection - Dedicated to placing rescued Golden Retrievers in safe, loving and permanent homes.
  • Dog Rescue - We provide a lost/found service, education, adoptions and by collaborating on a pet lost/found line. We assist lost/found dogs in finding their way home. We also provide seminars on a variety of pet topics. If you would like us to make a presentation to your organization, please e-mail us.


Tucson

  • Arizona Greyhound Adoption League - AZgreyhounds is dedicated to the rescue and adoption of young, healthy, purebred, retired racing Greyhounds and finding forever homes for each one. The program also provides educational programs to local schools and groups about retired Greyhounds, their history, Greyhound racing and our adoption program.
  • Arizona Greyhound Rescue - A non-profit, all-volunteer, 501(c)3 corporation committed to the belief that every greyhound deserves a loving, permanent and responsible home.
  • Foundation for Animals in Risk - A non-profit, no-kill animal rescue organization that is committed to rescuing animals from kill shelters and finding them permanent homes; alleviating the suffering caused by neglect, cruelty and ignorance; education of responsible pet ownership; working cooperatively with reputable animal welfare groups including spay/neuter programs; aiding law enfircement's efforts to investigate and prosecute crimes of animal cruelty.
  • Friends Of Alley Cats - A small program which works with the feral and stray cat population in Tucson, AZ. We advise people who are feeding feral or stray cats and teach them how to Trap/Neuter and Return (TNR) the cats to their territory to prevent further breeding. We accept, bottle feed, socialize, vaccinate, test and alter a limited number of litters of unweaned infant feral and stray kittens and make them available for adoption. FACT has no funding whatsoever and is dependent up on the generosity of the people who ask us to advise about TNR, the people who ask to relinquish kittens to us, the people who want to adopt the kittens, Dr. Kayomee Daroowalla, Dr. Kayla Boyer, and the late Dr. Holly R. Keppel for making this program possible.
  • Greyhound Adoption League - A 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. 100% of all donations go towards helping ex-racing greyhounds in Southern Arizona.
  • The Humane Society of Southern Arizona - Founded in 1957, Arizona Humane Society is a private nonprofit organization.
  • Safe Animal Rescue (Saving Animals From Euthansia) - Committed to working with the public and shelters to discover the real causes of companion animal euthanasia and to developing effective programs that can be implemented now to help reduce the percentage of adoptable animals destroyed each year.
  • Senior Hound Assistance, Research And Education - Senior Hound Assistance, Research and Education.
