Animal Rescues and Shelters in Colorado

Robbins Pet Care simply provides information to private animal owners, shelters and rescues. Statewide

  • California Chinese Shar-Pei Rescue (AZ, CA, OR, WA, NV, HI, CO, NM) - A registered non-profit Chinese Shar-Pei dog and puppy rescue serving the Western U.S., offering Shar-Pei adoption services, Shar-Pei health information and resources.
  • Mile High Weimaraner Rescue - An organization operated soley by volunteers dedicated to the welfare of the Weimaraner breed. MHWR is a rescue group who operates on donations and the support of the Weimaraner Foundation Fund - Rescue Committee, which is part of the Weimaraner Club of America. MHWR is located in the Denver, Colorado metropolitan area. MHWR does not place Weimaraners outside of a four hour drive from Denver.
  • Colorado Beagle Rescue - Offers adoptions, events and news, information about Beagles, area shelters and more.
  • Colorado Greyhound Adoption - A non-profit organization 501(c)3 devoted to placement and adoption of greyhounds. Foster programs are available. Based in the metropolitan Denver area.
  • Colorado Pug Rescue - An all volunteer organization established in 1995 by members of a Denver-area pug dog club who were concerned about the welfare of their breed. CPR works to recover pugs from private relinquishments, shelters, and other sources throughout Colorado and in surrounding states. We network with surrounding states to rescue, medically and emotionally treat, and place pug dogs.
  • Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado (CO, WY, ID, NM) - A 501(c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to locating permanent, loving homes for unwanted or abandoned Dalmatians. We provide consultation and education about the Dalmatian breed. Due to our extremely limited resources for fostering, we mainly take dogs on their last day in area shelters. We do not normally take dogs from private individuals. However, we can provide information on how to advertise for and screen prospective adopters, and can help in the screening process.
  • Flash and Thelma Memorial Hedgehog Rescue, Inc. - Hedgehogs. A non-profit corporation, inspected and licensed by the Colorado Animal Shelter for hedgehog rescue. We are also licensed under the USDA as a Class "C" Exhibitor (a necessary license to do public presentations, in the same category as zoos) under the U.S. Animal Welfare Act, License No. 84-C-0075. Our Rescue is also a member of the Colorado Federation of Animal Welfare Agencies, a networking group of humane societies, animal control agencies, and non-profit animal care, rescue, and adoption organizations in Colorado.
  • Friends Of Retired Greyhounds (CO, NE, SD, WY) - A 501(c)(3) non-profit, volunteer organization dedicated to: cooperating with kennel operators and other adoption groups to place retired greyhounds in responsible, loving homes; working with vets to insure that dogs adopted from FOR greyhounds are altered, vaccinated, and in general good health before placing them in homes; educating individuals and groups about greyhounds, their history, their lives as racing dogs, and our adoption program.
  • The Gabriel Foundation - A 501(c)(3) avicultural and veterinary affiliated parrot welfare organization licensed by the State of Colorado, promoting educational outreach, conservation, rescue, rehabilitation, adoption, long-term foster care, and sanctuary pertaining to the needs of parrots everywhere.
  • High Country Newfoundland Rescue - (CO, NM, WY, UT, ND, SD, MT) - Provides a placement network to find safe and healthy homes for surrendered and abandoned Newfs.
  • Jack Russell Terrier Rescue of Colorado - A regional organization dedicated to rescuing, fostering, and placing homeless Jack Russell Terriers into suitable and caring life-long homes.
  • High Country Basset Hound Rescue & Adoption Service Inc - A non-profit organization dedicated to finding homes for abandoned and abused Basset Hounds.
  • Friends of Rescued Mastiffs, Inc. Rescue and Placement Service (FORM) (AZ, AR, CO, IA, KS, LA, MO, NE, NM, OK, SD, UT, TX, WY) - Available to provide re-homing services to purebred Mastiffs. Dogs are accepted from their owners, shelters, as well as other rescue organizations. We focus on, above all, proper temperament for the Mastiffs that we place. Our organization is a fully incorporated charitable animal welfare organization that has tax-deductible IRS 501(c)3 status. All contributions go directly to the Mastiffs in need.
  • German Shepherd Dog Rescue of Utah (UT, ID, MT, WY, CO, AZ, NV) - Works to place loving German Shepherds into permanent homes. These dogs come from a variety of backgrounds, and are carefully screened to check for health and temperament concerns. All dogs placed are wormed, immunized, and spayed or castrated unless their health prevents such surgery.
  • Rocky Mountain Greyhound Adoption, Inc. (CO, ID, UT, MT, NV) - (Est. 1994) is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to finding permanent, loving homes for retired racing Greyhounds. Our volunteers are located primarily in the area north of Denver, stretching as far as Fort Collins. And our kennel is just east of Brighton, Colorado.
  • Rocky Mountain Siamese Rescue A 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming Siamese and Siamese mix cats. We are based in Colorado but serve CO and bordering states.


Aurora

  • Colorado Cocker Spaniel Rescue - A few caring volunteers who provide loving care; in the form of food, shelter and transportation for the animals, while we search for new homes for them. We address any medical needs they may have, get them cleaned up, groomed and generally feeling better and provide them with a safe loving environment. We are not a shelter  - the dogs we rescue are placed in foster care, or remain with their original owners, if possible, until they are rehomed.
  • Westie Rescue of Colorado - A tax-exempt organization founded by the members of the West Highland White Terrier Club of Greater Denver and is a member of the All Breed Rescue Network, Inc., a coalition of breed specific rescue groups in Colorado.


Boulder

  • Humane Society of Boulder Valley - A private, nonprofit organization that relies on donations from our generous supporters. We are not operated or funded by any national humane groups or governmental agencies and must rely on contributions to bring our services to the community. We offer refuge to over 8,000 animals each year.

Colorado Springs

  • All Breed Rescue & Training - We are a non-profit organization that places at risk shelter dogs in foster care until a permanent home is be found. Dogs brought into the foster program go through a process of evaluation and preparation so that they can be placed in the best home.
  • Chihuahua & Small Dog Rescue, LLC - A Colorado corporation recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization is committed and devoted to the rescue and home placement of Chihuahuas and small dogs (mixed breeds included, up to 15 lbs) that have been abused, neglected, abandoned and surrendered by their owners.  To education the public to become responsible dog owners and spay and neuter their dogs.
  • Dreampower Animal Rescue - We routinely rescue and place by adoption; cats, dogs, small caged and large companion animals. We are a no-kill 501(c)(3) providing full service altering, testing and vaccination prior to adoption, low income Spay/Neuter assistance, Humane Education, Pet Therapy and recently entering the area of Trap Neuter Release.


Commerce City

  • Recycled Racers - A small 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the placement of retired racing Greyhounds into responsible, loving homes.  Since our inception in 1993, we have placed over 1,500 Greyhounds.


Denver

  • The Animal Rescue and Adoption Society - A no-kill cat shelter dedicated to preventing cruelty to animals, and providing a safe shelter and a second chance for homeless cats and kittens.
  • Chip Your Cat - The Denver Area Veterinary Medical Society (DAVMS), Dumb Friends League and participating members of the Metro Denver Shelter Alliance have launched the Chip Your Cat year-long program to provide 150,000 free microchips and lifetime registration for cats residing in the six county Denver metro area (Adams, Arapahoe, Broomfield, Denver, Douglas and Jefferson counties). Good from September 2008 - September 2009 or while supplies last.
  • Colorado Basenji Rescue - A non-profit organization composed exclusively of volunteers, and is associated with: Hi Country Basenji Club, Basenji Club of America, The All Breed Rescue Network, Basenji Rescue and Transport (BRAT), Basenji Companions. We work closely with area shelters, arrange foster home care for Basenjis that have fallen on hard times. We take requests from people wishing to place their dogs in other homes, place Basenjis in qualified homes, and participate in public education activities to teach about breed characteristics and responsible pet ownership.
  • Dumb Friends League - Founded in 1910, provides humane care to lost and abandoned animals, rescues sick, injured and abused animals, adopts pets to new homes, helps pets stay in homes, and educates pet owners and the public about the needs of companion animals. We turn no animals away. At our main shelter in southeast Denver and our Buddy Center in Castle Rock, dogs, cats, rabbits and other small pets enjoy the comfort of a nurturing environment in state-of-the-art facilities. Provides shelter and care for more than 28,000 lost and abandoned animals every year.
  • Golden Retriever Freedom Rescue, Inc. - A nonprofit 501(c)(3), all volunteer organization. We have placed over 1000 Goldens since we were founded in 2001 in permanent, loving homes. (last updated 12/2008)
  • Golden Retriever Rescue of the Rockies - An all-volunteer non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that helps place unwanted, abandoned or surrendered Golden Retrievers into loving forever homes. Founded in 1996, GRRR re-homes approximately 300 Golden Retrievers annually.
  • Great Dane Assistance League, Inc. - Founded in 2002 by a group of individuals who are concerned for the welfare of Great Danes. We are a group dedicated to the advancement of the Great Dane breed with respect to proper medical care, socialization, education and ownership.
  • High Country Basset Hound Rescue and Adoption Service, Inc. - A non-profit organization Dedicated to finding homes for abandoned and abused Basset Hounds.
  • Ho-Bo Care Boxer Rescue - A non-profit corporation registered with the State of Colorado. Our small group consists of people who care for the homeless, abused and unwanted Boxers, may they be puppies or 6 year old adults. Education and advice is also available for those wanting help or more information about the Boxer breed.
  • Maxfund Animal Adoption Center - A true no-kill shelter. There is no pre-sorting of animals into "adoptable" and "non-adoptable" categories, discarding the so-called "unadoptable." The MaxFund takes every animal it has the space for.
  • Retriever Rescue of Colorado, Inc. - An all-volunteer 501(c)(3) organization. Rescued breeds will include Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Curly Coated Retrievers, Flat Coated Retrievers, Chesapeake Bay Retrievers and Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers.
  • Rocky Mountain Alley Cat Alliance - The only local organization that specializes in humane feral cat management.  With more than 125,000 feral cats in Metro Denver, we hope you'll join us in our efforts to spay and neuter our community’s feral and stray cats.
  • Rottie Aid - A 501(c)(3) non-for-profit organization focusing on placement assistance, rescue, referral and education. Our primary goals include assisting Rottweiler owners with problems in keeping their dogs, whether it be housing, insurance or behavioral issues, re-homing suitable Rottweilers, foster care and public education. Rottie Aid is a combination of members of the Mile High Rottweiler Club as well as individuals already involved with Rottweiler Rescue.
  • Safe Harbor Lab Rescue - A non-profit organization run by volunteers for the purpose of permanently rehoming stray or surrendered Labrador Retrievers in Colorado.


Englewood

  • Colorado Humane Society and SPCA - Providing treatment and loving homes to lost, abused and abandoned animals, providing humane and compassionate services to not only the Denver area, but nationwide for the past 125 years.
  • Colorado Sheltie Rescue - A 501(c)3 nonprofit corporation. Our mission is to take in abandoned, lost and unwanted Shelties and find them new, loving homes. All of our dogs are vet checked, spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations, microchipped, heartworm tested, and started on heartworm preventative. Foster homes only, not a shelter.
  • Doberman Rescue Of Colorado - A non-profit/humane organization that takes in lost, abandoned, unwanted and neglected Doberman Pinschers, as well as those from families who can no longer take care of them. The dogs receive medical treatment, including all necessary immunizations. They are spayed or neutered, fully vaccinated, de-wormed, get any necessary diagnostic tests, x-rays, and have had any vet recommended life improving surgery. All dogs are evaluated for socialization skills enabling the rescue to place the correct dobe with the best family for it.


Erie

  • Feathered Family - A 501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the health and welfare of exotic birds, specializing in working with behaviorally challenged or feather abusing parrots. Feathered Family provides, rescue, adoption, behavioral rehab and public education about exotic birds.


Evergreen

  • Evergreen Animal Protective League - Since 1981, has provided aid to lost, abandoned and suffering animals through rescue, shelter and education. The League has provided a better life for over 8,000 cats and dogs. All volunteer, non-profit. A good source for pet behavior problems and pet education.

Fort Collins

  • Dalmatian Rescue of Colorado (CO, WY, ID, NM) - A 501(c)(3) non profit organization dedicated to locating permanent, loving homes for unwanted or abandoned Dalmatians.   • Polaris Siberian Husky Rescue - Founded in 1987. Since 1997 we have been a member of All Breed Rescue , which is a statewide non-profit organization of about 40 different breed-specific rescue groups. We also hold a state license as a rescue. Our Executive Office is located in Ft. Collins, CO but our available dogs are in foster homes throughout the state of Colorado.


Georgetown

  • Hope for Animals - Clear Creek Rescue - Has been helping abandoned, abused, neglected, and homeless animals since 1996. We try to save as many pets on "death row" from other shelters in the Denver area as we can. All the Hope For Animals animals are living in boarding facilities or foster homes.

  • Safe Harbor Lab Rescue
  • Table Mountain Animal Center - Cats And Small Animals - Founded in 1976, and granted 501(c)(3) status in 1994, the Center is one of the leading adoption facilities and educational resources for animal care in the state of Colorado, serving the communities of Golden, Morrison, Mt. View, Edgewater, and Westminster, unincorporated Jefferson County and the cities of Arvada, Lakewood and Wheat Ridge.


Grand Junction

  • Western Colorado Sheltie Rescue - We help Shetland Sheepdogs who turn up in shelters, are found lost on the street, are no longer wanted by their owners, or whose owners can no longer care for them. We place Shelties found in shelters or elsewhere into foster homes where they are cared for as a member of the family.


Greeley

  • Mountain States Horse Rescue - Horse rescue. We will never turn away a horse in need. All are welcome. We are the oldest horse rescue in the midwest and are all volunteers.


Lakewood

  • Cat Care Society - Founded in 1981, a non-profit organization established in order to improve the quality of life for homeless, injured and abused cats in the Denver metropolitan area.

Longmont

  • Colorado Reptile Humane Society - Works to improve the lives of reptiles and amphibians in captivity and in the wild through education and action. Licensed by the State of Colorado, Pet Animal Care Facilities Act, as an animal shelter.


Loveland

  • Italian Greyhound Rescue Of Colorado - Originally formed in 2004 to help organize the Colorado Italian Greyhound (IG) community. It coordinates a variety of social events and rescue efforts with the Italian Greyhound Club of America (IGCA).

Pine Junction

  • Intermountain Humane Society - A 501(c)(3) charitable organization first organized in 1982. Since that time, IMHS has found new homes for over 5000 animals in the area of Park and Southwest Jefferson Counties, Colorado.
  • Longmont Humane Society - A private, non-profit organization dedicated to the protection of animals. We provide temporary shelter to thousands of animals every year: dogs, cats, small mammals and birds who are lost, abandoned or surrendered. Loving attention, nutritious food, meticulous health care and daily exercise are standard parts of the high-quality care provided to each animal.


Pueblo

  • Pueblo Collie/Sheltie Rescue - Founded in 1979, is a tax-exempt, volunteer-operated organization. We help collies, collie-mixes, shelties, sheltie-mixes, and occasional other breeds and mixes that need our assistance. Our rescue dogs live in foster homes, receive thorough vet care and are adopted out after a careful screening process. We help between 150 and 200 dogs a year, which come to us from Colorado and other states. Our adopters also come from Colorado and other states. We do not ship dogs. Prospective adopters must come in person to meet the right dog. Our goal is to make a perfect match between dog and family. PCSR is a member of the Denver All Breed Rescue Network. We have been certified as a sound rescue agency by the State of Colorado.


Thornton

  • Colorado Shih Tzu And Maltese Rescue - Our mission is to rescue and save as many unwanted and stray Shih Tzu, Maltese, and Lhasa Apso dogs that we can, and provide them with the love, care, and medical attention that they so much deserve and need. It is also our mission to give these wonderful little dogs a second chance at life and find them a permanent home.
