Animal Rescues and Shelters in Iowa

Robbins Pet Care simply provides information to private animal owners, shelters and rescues. We encourage all to seek references when making decisions regarding pet adoption, pet placement, care and training. Robbins Pet Care cannot guarantee the accuracy of all of the shelter or rescue listings in this site.

Statewide

  • ACES (Another Chance for English Setters) - Founded in 1999. In 2002, the IRS classified ACES as a tax-exempt charitable organization, as defined in IRS Regulation 501(c)(3). Over the years, our rescue has grown into a national organization with volunteers and adopters across the country and foster homes in more than 28 states. ACES depends on the dedication of our selfless volunteers and our generous donors, without them we would not be in the rescue business. As of December 2007, ACES has placed more than 1,600 English Setters.
  • Animal Lifeline of Iowa - A no-kill special needs animal shelter that accepts unowned dogs and cats who are handicapped, injured, have a serious medical condition, pregnant or nursing, and orphans that need to be bottle fed. Animal Lifeline (ALI) is supported solely by donations. ALI is recognized by the IRS as a 501(c)(3) organization.
  • Heartland Chinese Crested Club - (IA, KS, MN, NE, SD, ND, MO, OK) - Like all responsible breeders & clubs we run a rescue program for our Breed. Not all Rescues come from abusive situations. Sometimes they have to be given up by people for various reasons such as ill health, divorce, moving, any number of reasons.
  • Iowa Parrot Rescue - Located in Eastern Iowa on the Mississippi River, but they have connections to rescuers and adoption facilities all over the country. If you have a bird that needs a home, and can't find a good one, contact them. Visit their site to see many beautiful birds!
  • Friends of Rescued Mastiffs, Inc - Available to provide re-homing services to purebred Mastiffs. Dogs are accepted from their owners, shelters, as well as other rescue organizations. We focus on, above all, proper temperament for the Mastiffs that we place. Our organization is a fully incorporated charitable animal welfare organization that has tax-deductible IRS 501(c)3 status. All contributions go directly to the Mastiffs in need.
  • Midwest Pug Rescue - (KS, MO, NE, IA, MN) - We are a rescue that takes in pugs and pug mixes. We take pugs regardless of age or health and will either adopt them out or keep them in foster homes. A very sweet, caring pug rescue.
  • MidWest Collie Rescue (IA, SD, ND, WI, MN) - We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, dedicated volunteers who open our hearts, lives and homes to ensure the safety of Border Collies. We strive to provide quality care and shelter for the abused, unwanted and abandoned Border Collie, evaluate them and place each into proper and permanent homes, aiming for the best possible match. We provide care and continuous training information with each Border Collie we place. It is our policy that adoptable Border Collies will not be euthanized due to lack of adoptive homes.
  • RAGOM (MN, IA, ND, SD) - Golden Retriever Rescue. With an ever-growing group of volunteers, RAGOM has re-homed over 3,000 Golden Retrievers since 1985. We are now in a new era of RAGOM, with a dedicated effort to organize the group.


Adel

  • Raccoon Valley Humane Society - A 501(c)3 non-profit, charitable and educational animal welfare organization. RVAS does not receive any government funding and relies solely on the contributions of public donors. Our mission is to eliminate the neglect, abuse and abandonment of companion animals caused by human ignorance, intolerance and indifference. And to celebrate the joys created by the human-animal bond by education and example.


Atlantic

  • Atlantic Animal Shelter - Staffed by the employees of the Atlantic Water Pollution Plant. Currently, the Atlantic Animal Shelter is a city shelter which means they can only accept animals from citizens of Atlantic, IA.


Bondurant

  • Heartland Greyhound Adoption - A volunteer not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization, formed and operating in central Iowa to promote the adoption of retired racing greyhounds.

  • PAWS Humane Society - A private nonprofit organization which serves as a sanctuary of hope and second chances for animals in need. We are a haven for the unwanted and abandoned who are desperately seeking loving and happy homes.

Des Moines

  • Animal Rescue League of Iowa - Founded in 1926, the Animal Rescue League of Iowa Inc. (ARL) is Iowa's largest nonprofit animal shelter, caring for many thousands of pets each year. The ARL serves people and pets from across the state of Iowa through its programs, which include pet adoption, humane education, pet behavior training, spay/neuter, animal cruelty intervention and much more.


Dubuque

  • Dubuque Humane Society - The mission of the Dubuque Regional Humane Society is to promote the human-animal bond and the humane treatment of all animals.


Fairfield

  • Noah's Ark Animal Foundation - A 501(c)(3) tax exempt, charitable, nonprofit organization. For over 18 years Noah's Ark Animal Foundation has offered loving care to homeless and abandoned cats and dogs. Noah's Ark is a no-kill shelter whose mission is to rescue, protect, and find loving homes for stray and neglected dogs and cats. We strive to offer the best in both traditional veterinary care and, whenever possible, holistic health care for sick and injured animals in our care. We believe we have a responsibility to provide low-cost spay/neuter subsidy programs, humane education, and community outreach programs that not only enhance the lives of the animals, but also the human lives the animals go on to enrich.


Fort Dodge

  • Humane Society of North Central Iowa - A non-profit organization funded solely by donations. We are a limited intake ("no-kill") facility serving North Central Iowa. We promote humane education and spaying and neutering your pets. We receive no money from the state or city - we rely on your generous donations so we can help the animals in need in our community and surrounding areas.


Glenwood

  • Hooves & Paws Rescue, Inc. - We rescue & rehabilitate horses & large breed dogs. We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit, relying on the generous donations of people like you to save and care for animals.


Iowa City


Muscatine

  • Muscatine Humane Society - The mission of the Muscatine Humane Society is to educate the public of the importance and dire necessity to spay and neuter their animals to prevent the needless suffering that follows pet overpopulation. Concurrently the Society provides a safe haven for lost or abandoned animals until their owners or new homes can be obtained.


Nevada

  • Story County Shelter - Home to the Story County Animal Control program. This facility houses the program's offices and accomodations for lost, abandoned and adoptable animals.


Raccoon Valley

  • Raccoon Valley Animal Sanctuary & Rescue - Our mission is to eliminate the neglect, abuse and abandonment of companion animals caused by human ignorance, intolerance and indifference. And to celebrate the joys created by the human-animal bond by education and example.


Sioux City

  • Iowa Basset Hound Rescue - We are a small shelter in Sioux City, IA, and take in only the love of our lives, Basset Hounds, to find them new, loving-homes. All of our Basset Hounds are altered and up to date on shots. All Basset Hounds are adorable.


Williamsburg

  • Safe Haven of Iowa County - SHIC is an animal rescue group that assists Iowa County with stray cats and dogs. We take pride in providing all of the animals who come through our door with mandatory spay/neuter, vaccinations, testing, and prepare them for permanent loving homes.
