Grizzly Salmon Oil
Grizzly Salmon Oil

Grizzly Salmon Oil is made from freshly harvested wild Alaskan salmon. The salmon oil naturally retains its balanced blend of valuable fatty acids and receives no additional processing. It has no added natural or artificial antioxidants, vitamins or minerals. It contains only inherent antioxidants and traces of vitamins that naturally occur in the salmon. We now carry the 4 oz size (new pump-style bottle), which is perfect for 1-2 cat hosueholds. (If you have more cats and/or dogs, then sizes 8 oz - 32 oz would be a more economical choice.)

Grizzly Salmon Oil provides the long chain Omega-3 fatty acids and DHA that have much higher immediate bioavailability than Omega-3 fatty acids from plant sources. Over 15 heart-healthy Omega-3 and Omega-6 fatty acids altogether are in this salmon oil.

Ingredients: Wild Alaskan salmon oil, rosemary extract

Why wild salmon and not farmed?

We are finding that there are many reasons why farmed salmon is not a good thing for us or our animals. To paraphrase key points from the website, farmedanddangerous.org:
  • Higher cancer risks - In most cases, consuming more than one serving of farmed salmon per month could pose unacceptable cancer risks, according to United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) standards for determining safe fish consumption levels. Farmed salmon were found to have up to 10 times higher levels of PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) and dioxins than wild salmon. ("A Global Assessment of Organic Contaminants in Farmed vs. Wild Salmon: Geographical Differences and Health Risks", released January 2004 in the respected journal, Science.)

  • Saturated fats: Farmed salmon is much higher in saturated fats than wild salmon.

  • Color additives: Farmed salmon are often given additives in their food to color their flesh pink with chemicals to resemble its wild counterparts - otherwise, it would remain an unappetizing grayish-brown color.

  • Genetic dilution: Escaped farmed chinook can interbreed with wild chinook. Since farmed salmon are cultivated from a limited gene pool, this could greatly lessen the ability of future generations of salmon to survive in the wild.

  • Open netcage systems: Allows for the transfer of disease and parasites from farms to wild salmon. (Farmed salmon are frequently fed antibiotics which actually contribute to the growth of drug-resistant bacteria.)

  • And more...
