What is Miliary Eczema (aka Miliary Dermatitis)? Miliary eczema (or dermatitis) is the name for the itchy scabbiness that dogs get in response to several conditions. It is characterized by multiple small, crusty bumps with redness underneath. What causes it? Flea allergy is probably the most common cause of miliary dermatitis. If the lesions are at the base of the tail, fleas are often the cause. If the lesions are near the head, mites are more likely the cause. Fleas are not always the cause, but a likely suspect. Miliary eczema can be present with other allergies, ringworm, immune mediated diseases and a host of other conditions. The cause seems to be associated with poor quality diets, stress, parasitic skin disorders and allergic reactions to a wide variety of antigens. Depending on the cause, your vet can make a proper diagnosis and treatment. If fleas are the cause, Homeopet's Miliary Eczema can be very helpful along with a flea control plan. • Rhus Toxicodendron (Poison Oak) - Indications: Very itchy skin (and sometimes vesicles) with small, red papules; arthritis; rheumatic conditions (lameness or stiffness that improves with movement). Rheumatic remedy.
• Antimonium Crudum (Black Sulphide of Antimony) (males) - Indications: Skin lesions that develop scabs after forming pus.
• Pulsatilla Nigricans (Wind Flower) (females) - Indications: Female hormonal disorders; creamy, yellow/green discharges from eyes, nose, vulva, etc.; symptoms that seem to "come and go" (e.g., appetite, diarrhea, itchy eyes, shifting lameness, etc.) Female constitutional remedy.
• Pulex Irritans (Common Flea) - Indications: Prickly, itchy sore spots (e.g., flea bites).
• Staphysagria (Stavesacre) - Indications: Violent itching, thick scabs and eczema. Also, emotionally resentful. May be useful in post-operative complaints.

Dosing
Pills and tablets are very difficult to administer to almost all animals, so HomeoPet developed a liquid delivery system that is easy to dose directly into the mouth, on food or in water. The best results are achieved by dosing directly into the mouth or alternatively on a small amount of food or in a small amount of water.

Acute cases: Acute cases are those that have a sudden onset, like thunderstorm anxiety or a traumatic injury. A dose can be given every 15 minutes for the first hour and then three times daily until improvement is seen.

Chronic cases: Chronic cases like joint disease, skin problems or incontinence often require a continued maintenance program. Maintain recommended dosage until improvement is seen and then gradually reduce dosage to a minimum level that maintains desired result. Repeat original dose with flare-ups.
