The Kerry Blue Terrier, weighing in between 33-40 lbs, is a well-built, muscular, medium-sized dog with true terrier style and character. For allergy-sufferers seeking a dog companion, they can be a good choice.* Common personality traits you will find in a Kerry Blue Terrier: - Vivacious and playful
- Alert
- Determined
- Boisterous
- Unrepressed
- Rarely barks unnecessarily
- Enjoys roughhousing - tends to be dog aggressive
- Good watchdog, but will not attack without provocation
- Can do fine in an apartment with no yard
- Protective and should be extensively socialized, especially with other dogs
Some are prone to Hip Dysplasia, PNA, cerebellar abiotrophy. Also some minor concerns are cataracts, spiculosis, hair follicle tumors, entropion, KCS, narrow palpebral fissure distichiasisme, and CHD. Retinal folds occasionally seen. Kerries should be groomed every 6 weeks. They also need to have the hair pulled out of the ear canal, as they are prone to ear infections when the ear hair gets too long and wax and dirt have built up. They do need daily outdoor walks. Playtime is also highly recommended to minimize any stress and/or behavioral issues (in any dog breed). * Please note: An allergy test is recommended before buying any breed where allergies or asthma are a problem.
