Chinese Crested (Hairless) - Great choice of dog companion for allergy sufferers

There are two varieties of the Chinese Crested (size: under 10 lbs): One is hairless except for its feet, head and tail, and called, the Hairless; the other is called the Powder Puff. It has a coat of long soft hair. For allergy-sufferers seeking a dog companion, the hairless variety can be a great choice.*

Common personality traits you will find in a Chinese Crested:
  • Intelligent

  • Alert - but not barkers

  • Clean and no doggy odor

  • Not prone to fleas or ticks

  • Sweet

  • Lively

  • Playful

  • Cuddly - likes to hug and smile

  • Entertaining - can be taught easier to do tricks than many other dogs

  • Can do okay in an apartment with no yard

  • Can be good with children -- especially if raised with from puppyhood (and the children are gentle to them).

The Chinese Crested are prone to skin irritations and problems. They are often allergic to lanolin (oil in sheep's wool) and wool. These types of dogs do need sunscreen or some sort of clothing (probably best not of wool origin) covering, so please remember to put on your dog companion before any sun exposure.

They do need daily outdoor walks (if cold, definitely with proper covering). This goes for apartment dwelling dogs as well.

** Please note: An allergy test is recommended before buying any breed where allergies or asthma are a problem.
